The Rail Trail

Discover Alberta’s next great trail experience: the Nordegg to Rocky Rail Trail, a developing 109-kilometre multi-use trail connecting our historic mining town of Nordegg to the vibrant community of Rocky Mountain House. Following the path of the former Canadian National Railway line, this scenic corridor blends captivating history with immersive wilderness, offering something for everyone — from families seeking a fun fall ride to backcountry adventurers chasing the next horizon.

One of the most iconic features of the route is the Taunton Trestle Bridge, an iron marvel that once carried coal trains through the forested foothills. Standing tall above the valley, this engineering marvel now offers panoramic views for trail users and is fast becoming a favourite photo spot for cyclists and hikers.

The beloved Nordegg Trestle Bridges are also currently undergoing revitalization, another key step in restoring the historic rail infrastructure for future trail use. These bridges will soon become the symbolic gateways to the trail, linking the past and future of the region.
