About Upper Shunda Creek Campground
Located just minutes from historic Nordegg, Upper Shunda Creek Campground offers a quiet, forested escape for campers seeking the simplicity of nature with a few thoughtful comforts. Situated along the meandering Shunda Creek, this well-loved campground is a favourite for families, hikers, anglers, and paddlers looking to experience the Bighorn’s rugged charm without straying too far from amenities.
Upper Shunda is known for its spacious, tree-shaded campsites—some of which border the creek—and its central location between the many outdoor adventures that define the David Thompson Corridor. From here, trails lead to lakes, ridgelines, and waterfalls, while Abraham Lake and Coliseum Mountain are just a short drive away. The campground also connects to local mountain bike routes and OHV-friendly areas, making it a basecamp for every kind of explorer.
With over 50 unserviced sites, firepits, potable water, clean outhouses, and on-site firewood sales, Upper Shunda blends rustic camping with reliable essentials. Group sites and a sheltered cookhouse offer space for gatherings, while interpretive signs provide context about the land and the creatures who call it home.
Whether you’re here for a weekend retreat or a basecamp for adventure, Upper Shunda Creek invites you to slow down, breathe deep, and reconnect.
